500        |a View of Alexander McBee’s farmhouse and property above the south bank of the Reedy River overlooking the intersection of South Main Street and Rhett Street in Greenville, South Carolina. Vardry McBee's son Alexander McBee (1822–1897) was heir apparent to the McBee fortune and a prominent businessman and state representative for the Greenville District. In September 1893, the Presbyterian Female Seminary opened in a leased residence on McBee Avenue. The school was sponsored by three local Presbyterian Churches and the Reverend J.F. McKinnon was elected its director. In 1895, McBee’s Terrace and the corresponding 16-acres was purchased and the Presbyterian Female Seminary moved into the McBee Farmhouse with Dr. Samuel Rhea Preston, M.A., D.D. (1849-1929) presiding as college president.
