Notes

Abstract:
The Carnegie Free Library with was dedicated and opened to the public on July 2, 1903 at 310 North Tryon Street. Annie Smith Ross was the first librarian. The building had five rooms and 2,526 volumes. The North Carolina Library Association held its first Meeting there in 1904. It was the first free public library in Charlotte and the second one to open in North Carolina. The building was razed in 1956 and the current library was built on the site.
