520 3    |a A brick, marble-trimmed structure that stood at 300 West Trade Street near First Presbyterian Church. The facility was four stories and a basement. Membership was by invitation only to an elite few. It was where northern and southern manufacturers could meet, trade, buy, and sell their wares. It boasted the finest ballroom in Charlotte at that time, and contained parlors, billiard rooms, dining and guest rooms, and bachelor quarters on the top floor. There was also a library there. In 1936, it served as the area's Democratic campaign headquarters for Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
